FEMRITE - Uganda Women Writers' Association was established in 1995 by a small group of women led by Hon. Karoro Okurut. The association was officially launched on 3rd May 1996. This was at a time when the Ugandan literary scene had no visible creative literature written by women.
FEMRITE is a membership organisation and currently has 102 members and five honorary members. Our mission is to build a sustainable platform for Ugandan women to contribute to national development through creative writing.
Our values; commitment to writing, sisterhood, voluntarism, Love of Books, Integrity and Professionalism.
We count amongst our achievements the publication of 29 books and training of more than 100 writers.
